I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Early Learning Matters school programs. My name is Kandy and I serve as the Executive Director and oversee admissions and preschool enrollment. Our team of educators is committed to providing a quality Preschool and Kindergarten experience focused on children ages 3-6. ELM is unique in that we offer a dedicated, thorough, educational program based on traditional practices and innovation in education.
One such innovative program is the explicit teaching of leadership skills to young children. Implemented in 2010, our leadership program teaches 21st-century leadership and life skills to students in a developmentally appropriate manner. The program creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. Instead of seeing children through the lens of a normal distribution curve—in which some kids are smart and some less smart, Early Learning Matters paradigm is that every child is capable and every child is a leader. Teachers facilitate the learning of the '7-Habits' and the development of a 'Growth Mindset'.
We are successful in our role as educators when our students begin to see themselves as leaders of themselves. They take charge of their own learning by taking initiative, planning, problem-solving, using resources, building relationships, and engaging fully in their school community. These skills translate to confidence, competence, and present and future academic success.
